RELIGIOUS EDUCATION PROGRAM at ST. JOHN VIANNEY PARISH
At St. John Vianney Parish, we are bound together by the Eucharist, directed by Gospel teachings and the teachings of the Catholic Church, enlightened by the Holy Spirit, and are committed to sharing in the ministry of Jesus Christ.
The Catholic Church believes (and so do we!) that parents are the primary religious educators of their children (CCC1653). We partner with parents through authentic teaching of the Catholic faith and implementing Gospel values on a daily basis in a Christ-centered environment.
All Catholic children in grades 1–12 who do not attend a Catholic school are expected to attend religious education classes.
Children’s Liturgy of the Word – Children PreK – 2nd Grade
During Children’s Liturgy Of the Word, children are dismissed from the assembly before the Liturgy of the Word and go with their catechist to the Parish Lanai, where the readings and Gospel are proclaimed from a Children's Lectionary. They return to the church during the time of the Presentation of the Gifts.
Parents are welcome to go with their child the first few times to make sure that they are able to participate or to help them overcome any apprehensions that they (or the parents) may have.
Catechesis of the Good Shepherd – Children PreK – 5th Grade
Catechesis of the Good Shepherd (CGS) is a Montessori based religious education program which seeks to engage children in developing their faith by using hands-on, interaction instruction.
First Reconciliation, Confirmation and Eucharist – 2nd Grade
For students at least seven (7) years old who have participated in a religious education program for at least the year prior, this program provides sacramental preparation for First Reconciliation, Confirmation and Eucharist.
Middle School Youth Ministry: 6th – 8th Grade
Can Church be fun? In Middle School Ministry, we build the message that faith can be fun or serious, and God is really with us in everything we do, say and experience!
Small group activities are led by youth and adult catechists and volunteers. Meetings are filled with games, sharing sessions, reflection time, prayer experiences and group building challenges to help 6th, 7th and 8th graders learn that faith weaves through every part of life. We emphasize mutual respect and good listening skills.
High School Youth Ministry: 9th – 12th Grade
High School Youth Ministry invites incoming 9th to 12th grade youth to be with each other and Christ Jesus at the same time! God's presence becomes meaningful through games, active conversation, hands-on projects, skits, group building, music, and prayer.
RCIA Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults
RCIA serves as a great opportunity not only for Catholics to update their understanding of the faith but also for persons interested in becoming Roman Catholic. For more details about the RCIA program, please contact the Parish Office.
Adults Enrichment
Religious education programs are offered weekly for adults who are interested in growing their understanding of the faith. Adult Bible Study is available during Religious Education Classes, as well as Monday morning and Thursday evening. Please contact the Parish Office for more information.
