Altar Servers
Did you know that that ministry of Altar Server, sometimes called an acolyte, is among the earliest of all liturgical roles? Only the ministries of the presider (priest) and deacon have a longer history and a place closer to the altar during the celebration of the Eucharist. Many parishes have Altar Servers that start at seven years old and continue serving well into their seventies.
Altar Servers are trained and commissioned to serve the parish by assisting the priest during Mass. Young men and women who choose to serve the parish, who are in the fourth grade or above and have been Confirmed and received First Eucharist, are trained in the proper procedures and attitudes of the Mass. Altar servers learn to share their time and talent at an early age.
